About Us

Buddy of Mine started in October of 2011 over a discussion regarding the Holiday Fund in Stoughton, WI. Mya Everson, co-founder of Buddy of Mine, thought it would be great to help families with pets over the Holiday season by providing free dog and cat food at the Holiday Fund event. After discussing this with Larry Eifert, also co-founder of the organization, the two distributed collection cans at eight stores throughout Stoughton and raised roughly $350. With that $350, Buddy of Mine was able to provide food and new toys for 72 cat families and 58 dog families that first year.

Looking to expand and help more for pets, we decided to hold our 1st Annual FUNraiser in July of 2012. Following that announcement, Buddy of Mine received the kind blessing of Mayor Olson with an official proclamation making July 28 “Stoughton Loves Its Pets Day”. That first FUNraiser produced $2000 in donations with the generous support of our guests, sponsors and local businesses.

The next step for Buddy of Mine was official Non-Profit status. The Stoughton Area Community Foundation graciously allowed us under their umbrella 501(c)3 to enable us to solicit tax exempt donations and seek grant monies in the future. From there we continued our Santa Paws Christmas Party over the Holidays with appearances by our pet mascots and Santa himself. We also teamed up with Oregon Vet Clinic to do a free Heartworm Clinic each Spring at the Stoughton Fire Station. These tests and their results, with the help of the Oregon Vet doctors, are provided free of charge for those in need. A Rabies Clinic, offering at-cost rabies and distemper immunizations, was added to our list of events in March of 2015. Our “Dillon Fund” is another venture of Buddy of Mine that allows us to help pet parents with the costs of lifesaving emergency procedures for their pets through 0% interest loans and grants. For details on these programs see our Financial Aid Services page found under the “Our Services” tab at the top of this page.

In January of 2017, our founder, Larry Eifert, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his home. He cherished his work with Buddy of Mine and all the pets and pet families the organization was able to help. We will strive to continue Larry’s work and help the pets of our community by continuing to offer many of these events and resources.

Thank you Larry & Buddy
